About Q3Matador:
Q3Matador is a modern-quake remake of the original Matador mod that was around in the days Quakeworld was still the big fish for Id software.

Matador is fairly simple - You have the norms - weapons, powerups, armor, and all the same maps (or any other map you wish to use for that matter), and then you throw in randomly spawning rune powerups that give players special boosts and abilities to spice things up. Throw in a grapple hook, some players, and the action can get pretty wild in short notice.

Q3Matador also adds in some nice logic function for admins who wish to tweak and adjust, or even remove runes from the server, meanwhile also adding to quakes combat tactics - some runes work better when battling others, some are better offense, while others defense. All runes can be combined with normal Quake powerups for a mixed, or increased effect. Grapple battles are not uncommon with skilled players who like to snare their prey and grind them into hamburger meat with the gauntlet.

Just ask any old school Quaker who played matador back in the day, they will tell you just how interesting things can get in a good match.

Pro's:

  • Fully configurable mod operation using logical cvars that do most of the thinking for you.
  • Random spawning removes the need for custom map entity's - ANY Q3 map will work - in any mode, FFA, Team, CTF, tourney.
  • Tweaked grapple code, smoothed out a bit from the original/excluded grapple code for Q3A written by Id.
  • Rune-specific shader effects and visuals.
  • SMALL DOWNLOAD - Added file bulk has been kept to a minimum, letting us provide a mod that's only a few hundred KB in size. An autodownload even modem players can sit through without going mad.
  • OPEN SOURCE: You want it? Come and get it! Would you like that with or without CVS?

Con's:

  • No full documentation yet: We have a help file and a rune file, but we plan for a more helpful set of pages soon.
  • Bot IA needs to be tweaked a bit still, Runes register to a bot as 'powerups' and they tend to get confused by having so many around and trying to pick them all up. (Of course, some noobs do this too.. :)
  • Not finished yet! We still have some nice things in store for the mod, but the mod is stable, playable, and very much enjoyable at this state of its production.

Whats to come in the future releases:

  • Advanced administration features for configuring 'vote' commands that players can use. (change maps, fraglimit, timelimit, nextmap, game mode, or whatever else is configured in a cfg file by the admin)
  • New modes of gameplay, New team game types and FFA game types.
  • 'Advanced' and 'Classic' Rune mode (Current style of rune play is 'classic' matador, advanced gameplay modes and special rune tricks will be toggled by mode Cvars)
  • More fun than you can shake your boom stick at!
